Sam Silverman, one of the two candidates in the runoff for the 108th District Court Judge, has received an endorsement from the West Texas A&M chapter of Young Conservatives of Texas, according to a press release posted to the organization’s Facebook page.

“Sam Silverman, a long-time resident and native of Amarillo, has voiced his commitment to always uphold the US Constitution and avoid legislating from the bench,” reads the release. “Silverman brings 33 years of experience to the table. He promises to treat every case that comes before his court with fairness, while showing respect to the court.” The release also highlights that Silverman is an alumnus of West Texas A&M.

Silverman has also earned the support of businessman Alex Fairly, who has become a key player in local politics in recent years, with a Fairly-backed slate being elected to Amarillo City Council last year and several Fairly-backed candidates having won elections during the March 5th primary.

Silverman earned second place in the four-way March 5th primary with 26.11% of the vote. Silverman is facing Tim Pirtle, who came in first with 28.71%. Joe Marr Wilson narrowly missed the runoff with 25.04% of the vote. Pamela Sirmon didn’t finish far behind, with 20.15%.

Whoever wins the runoff will become the Republican Party nominee. Since a challenger is not expected in November, the winner will likely replace Judge Doug Woodburn, who was not eligible to seek another term due to a statutory judicial retirement age.

The runoff election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th. Early voting is May 20th through 24th.
