Amarillo City Council has unanimously approved an employment contract with Grayson Path, the next Amarillo City Manager.

Under the agreement, Path will officially start on August 12th with a base salary of $285,000 per year, with an annual increase of at least 1%. On top of that amount, he will be given an automobile allowance of $9,000 per year.

When former City Manager Jared Miller left the city, his base salary was $313,000 per year, with an annual car allowance of $12,000. Miller was also given a phone allowance of $900 per year.

There is no provision for a phone allowance in Path’s contract. Instead, he will be provided with “a laptop computer, desktop computer, software, and a mobile phone.”

One of the most controversial aspects of Miller’s contract, which required that a supermajority to fire him without cause, is not included in Path’s contract. Instead, a majority of the council will be required in order to terminate Path’s employment.

Path has served as the City Manager of Paris, Texas since 2020. Under his most recent contract with Paris, Path was earning a base salary of $178,000 per year. His automobile allowance with Paris was $7,200 per year. His contract with Paris also included a provision requiring the city to provide him “a laptop computer, desktop computer, software, and a mobile phone,” similar to his new contract with Amarillo.

Path’s full contract, as well as the most recent employment contract with former City Manager Jared Miller, are included below.
