Why did you decide to run for this office in 2024?

With 24 years of judicial training and experience, I am the best candidate. I have a passion for the efficient administration of justice and have always ensured each case is timely heard. I've successfully run two other courts in Potter County and will run this court efficiently from day one. I want to continue serving the citizens of Potter County.

If elected, what will be your top priority?

To organize the existing docket, set deadlines, and move cases. I believe that a judge's role is to ensure cases are resolved in a timely and efficient manner, and have a proven track-record of doing just that. I am also excited to work with the County's public defender office and mental health programs that have been put in place.

Please describe your legal career experience and discuss any career highlights you would like to share.

Licensed attorney in Amarillo for 34 years: 24 years as a judge; 8 years as a prosecutor, and 2 years in private practice. I am also a certified family law mediator. The highlight of my career has been serving Potter County as a judge and the thousands of people that have passed through the courts.

During your time in law school, what was the most profound lesson you learned that continues to play a role in your career and/or your life?

Professor Bubany emphasized that family law cases should not be decided by who had the most money, nicest home or fanciest clothes but who would love, care and nurture the children. Parents do not have to be "perfect" - but beyond providing food, shelter, clothing, they must create a healthy environment for children to grow up in. I went to law school intending to work on agricultural issues (my background) but was drawn to family law and how important it is to individual families and society as a whole.

What fictional lawyer do you most identify with? Please explain.

Judge Harry Stone on Night Court. Despite the shenanigans the other characters found themselves in, Judge Harry Stone came up with unique solutions to each problem. In real life, judges and attorneys spend their days dealing with people who made a decision that had bad results. I strive to always see the positive in people and their situations. Each of us are capable of making bad decisions, but what matters is how we resolve those situations.

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?

I have the judicial experience to begin work on day one. There is a difference between a lawyer and a judge similar to the difference between a baseball player and an umpire. Knowing the game and playing the game is not the same as calling the game. I am the only candidate with 24 years experience running a trial court. The skills for setting up court personnel, budgets, jury trial dockets, daily dockets and time management come with experience and time. The 108th District Court is a general jurisdiction court that handles a large portion of the family and felony criminal caseloads in Potter County, as well as civil, tax foreclosure, and bond forfeiture cases. I have presided over each of these types of cases and have a proven record of running an efficient docket.
