President-elect Donald Trump has passed on appointing U.S. Representative Jeb Hensarling, for the role of United States Secretary of the Treasury.
Hensarling, a Dallas Republican, had been floated as a potential pick for the role and had been earning media coverage as a possible candidate. Hensarling currently serves at the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
Trump's choice of Steven Mnunchin as Treasury Secretary also nixes another potential candidate's chances.
Former U.S. Representative Ron Paul, of Houston, had been gaining support through online petitions and groups of activists as a potential choice for the role of Secretary of the Treasury. Paul has also been receiving support to be considered for the role of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.
Hensarling will be entering his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, in 2017. In November, Hensarling handily won re-election over Libertarian Ken Ashby, 81 percent to 19 percent.
Because he was not appointed, Hensarling's seat will not be a battleground for a 2017 special election.
