Corpus Christi mayor Dan McQueen announced his resignation this week, after serving 37 days in the office.
McQueen, who defeated incumbent mayor Nelda Martinez in 2016, resigned after a short tenure, through a Facebook post. McQueen resigned citing "differing views and divisiveness" according to the Texas Tribune.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times has reported that at least three candidates will be seeking the office of mayor in a special election. City Councilmen Chad Magill and Mark Scott have both announced their intention to seek the office of mayor. Former Democratic candidate for governor of Texas, Ray Madrigal, will also be seeking election to the spot.
