APD: Juvenile Arrested on Weapons Charge

"On Friday January 27th at 3:54 PM, school officials at Travis Middle School were alerted that there was a male juvenile with a gun on campus.

He was on the north side of the building. School administrators notified the school liaison officer and the police department. The School Liaison officer and patrol officers responded to the area of Travis.

The juvenile suspect had already left the campus. Officers located him and detained him about two blocks east of the school. He did not have a gun in his possession at that time. Officers interviewed witnesses and learned that the juvenile suspect had a verbal dispute with a student earlier in the day. He left the campus and he later returned and was on the north side of the school, outside of the building. He approached the juvenile that he had the dispute with. He produced what was believed to be a handgun and made a verbal threat. He then left the area.

No shots were fired and there were no injuries.

The juvenile was booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Juvenile Offender Unit investigators are working to determine the source and current location of the weapon."
