"Guest performers will join the West Texas A&M University Choirs and Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the holiday season with back-to-back presentations of “Sing a Song for the Glorious Season” at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on the WTAMU campus.
The two presentations will feature more than 250 musicians in a program of carols and holiday music. Special guests for the Christmas concerts include the Canyon High School Chamber Choir, directed by Brandon Farren, and Dongin Youn, music director of the Philharmonie of Seoul, South Korea. The concerts also will feature Michael Johnson, organist, Yevgeny Zvonnikov, violinist, and Guglielmo Manfredi on the horn. Dr. Sean Pullen is director of the WTAMU choirs, and Dr. Mark Bartley is director of the symphony orchestra. Each of the featured ensembles will perform a set of their own and then join as a group for the concert finale.
“Our Christmas tradition reaches new heights,” Bartley said. “We are delighted that Brandon Farren and the Canyon High School Chamber Choir are joining us this year, and we welcome Dongin Youn as guest conductor of the orchestra. We look forward to the premiere of “Roasted Chestnuts,” a piece he has written for this occasion. Harrington String Quartet violinist Yevgeny Zvonnikov will delight with his stunning rendition of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto finale and look for special appearances by fellow WTAMU music faculty Michael Johnson on organ and Guglielmo Manfredi on horn.”
A reception in the atrium will follow each concert.
