Lowder to Exit Potter GOP After Filing Error

Jim Lowder, the chairman of the Potter County Republican Party, will be exiting his role in 2018, following a filing error.

Lowder announced his intention to resign from the party on Monday after filing the paperwork to run for Potter County District Clerk. Lowder also had an application in place to seek re-election as Potter County Republican chairman.

According to those at the Potter County Republican party, Lowder announced his intention to resign and told a group gathered at the party's headquarters on Monday that he would be pulling out of the race for county chairman. However, Lowder's application for district clerk was rejected upon receipt, as Texas law prohibits candidates from seeking two offices at the same time.

Following the rejection of his application, Lowder announced that he would also be withdrawing from the race for county chairman. Lowder's withdrawal from the race leaves Amarillo politician Bill Bandy as the only candidate running for county chairman.

Without Lowder in the district clerk race, Potter County voters will choose between Crystal Flores and Carley Snider for the seat.

The Republican party primary will be held on March 6th.
