President Donald Trump signed a bill on Tuesday that was authored by local Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon).
On Tuesday, Trump placed his signature on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018. Thornberry had a key role in the bill's passage, serving as the bill's author and securing the bill's cosponsor in Congressman Adam Smith (D-Washington).
Trump signed the bill Tuesday after the bill passed with bipartisan support in both congressional chambers. The bill passed 89-8 in the U.S. Senate and passed 356-70 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Following the signing of the bill, President Trump presented Thornberry with the pen used to sign the NDAA of 2018.
Thornberry also praised Trump's passage of the bill in an official statement from the White House.
"Having the President sign the NDAA conference report into law is a critical milestone in the effort to rebuild America’s military strength, support our troops, and reform the way the Pentagon does business," Thornberry said. "The policies in this bill reflect months of bipartisan work and agreement."
