Former City Attorney, Underwood Lawyer to Run for Judge

Marcus Norris, the former attorney for the City of Amarillo, has announced his candidacy for district judge.

Norris announced his candidacy on Monday for judge of the 320th District Court. Norris is running for the Republican nomination to succeed the retiring Judge Don Emerson.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Norris serves as an attorney at Underwood Law Firm in Amarillo. Prior to working for Underwood, Norris worked as the city attorney for Killeen, Texas and as city attorney for Amarillo. Norris resigned from the City of Amarillo in 2015, shortly after the election of Elisha Demerson, Randy Burkett and Mark Nair to the Amarillo City Council.

As reported by KFDA, Norris did not cite a reason for resigning, except for saying, "I choose not to provide further professional services to the city."

Norris is currently the only candidate seeking the spot in 2018.

Interested candidates have until December 11th to file for a spot to the ballot.
