An Amarillo driver has died following a head-on collision with a school bus.
On Thursday morning, officers were dispatched to Bell Street and Sandie Drive on an accident involving a vehicle and a school bus. When officers arrived, they found that a school bus had been northbound on Bell Street and was in the turning lane to go west on Sandie Drive. A white Ford Excursion, driven by David Scott Nunn, 40, had been southbound on Bell Street. Nunn drove into the turning lane where the school bus was sitting and struck the bus head-on.
Witnesses say that Nunn had been driving at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic immediately prior to the collision.
Nunn was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Two passengers on the school bus were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Justice of the Peace Richard Herman has ordered an autopsy. This incident is still under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
