Amarillo Matters Makes Major Spending Push, Backs Candidates

Amarillo Matters is spending big ahead of the May 6th City Council and school board elections.

During the most recent filing period, Amarillo Matters reported spending $109,626.46. This total was used in support of candidates Ginger Nelson, Elaine Hays, Freda Powell, Eddy Sauer, Howard Smith, Jay Barrett, Michele Fortunato, Sally Jennings, and Alfonso Zambrano. The PAC also spent funds opposing candidates Elisha Demerson, James Schenck, Tom Warren II, and Mark Nair.

The PAC's only direct campaign contributions went to the AC campaigns of Barrett, Fortunato, Jennings, and Zambrano. The majority of the PAC's spending for the reporting period went toward consulting and printing fees.

The PAC generated buzz last month after releasing a mailer which was critical of Demerson, Schenck, Warren and Nair.
