AC & WT Students to Paint Mural Downtown

Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University art students will soon be leaving their mark downtown.

AC and WT students will be painting a mural on The Insurance Building's wall at 6th and Fillmore. The project is being underwritten by Amarillo National Bank.

According to Amarillo College, Amarillo National Bank asked the art departments from Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University to submit proposals for the design with elements indigenous to the Texas panhandle. Both art departments have been invited to jointly paint the selected proposal by Amarillo College art student Aimee Miller.

Miller's design includes a locomotive, hot air balloon, oil rig, sunset, cowboy and cattle.

The mural is meant to commemorate the bank's 125th anniversary. Art students from both departments will team up in May to make Miller's design a reality on the 50 foot by 30 foot wall.

The mural is expected to take two weeks to complete.
