West Texas A&M University is honoring former Amarillo Mayor Glen Parkey with the establishment of the Glen Parkey Scholarship for Leadership Excellence.
WTAMU made the announcement this weekend that the Parkey scholarship will be established during a luncheon on June 20th. The scholarship will be awarded annually in the minimum amount of $2,500 to a junior-classified student who has been accepted into the Dyke and Terry Rogers LEAD WT program. Students from Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma are eligible and the scholarship is renewable for one year.
Parkey is a 1960 graduate of WTAMU, served as Mayor of Amarillo from 1987-1989. Parkey also served as chairman of the West Texas A&M University Foundation Board and the Children's Learning Centers. In addition, Parkey served as president of the Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce.
