City to Hold Active Shooter Training Exercise

The Amarillo/Potter/Randall Office of Emergency Management will be holding an active shooter exercise on Tuesday, May 23rd.

The full scale active shooter exercise will be conducted at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The exercise is not expected to disrupt normal activities or appointments at the Health Sciences Center.

Large numbers of police, fire and other emergency personnel are expected to be on hand for the event. Approximately 30 agencies will participate and will practice dispatch, emergency management, emergency medical services, fire, healthcare, law enforcement, schools, and voluntary organizations active in a disaster. The event will allow emergency management to practice their skills and response procedures in the event of an active shooter incident.

According to Amarillo.gov, each year, the Office of Emergency Management conducts these types of exercises to assist the community in developing strategies to become resilient to hazards that could impact the Amarillo area.
