Amarillo Police Investigating Morning Shooting, Two in Custody

"On June 21st at 1:19 AM, APD officers heard several shots being fired in the area of SW 10th and South Parker Street.

Dispatch began to receive calls about the same gunshots being heard. An officer stopped a 2003 silver Lexus in the 2700 block of SW 10th Avenue that was driving at a high rate of speed away from where the gunshots were being heard. Richard Daniel Wilbanks, a 25 year old male and Chace Neil Whisenhunt a 25 year old male, were the two occupants of the vehicle.

During the investigation officers found that the silver Lexus had been chasing what looked like a Honda SUV and the occupants of both vehicles were firing at each other. There were several buildings that had been struck by the gunfire in the area of SW 10th and Parker, but no injuries were reported. The SUV has not been located.

Wilbanks and Whisenhunt were both found to be in possession of handguns.  Whisenhunt was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Wilbanks was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. Both were booked into the Potter County Detention Center. The incident is still under investigation."
