The San Antonio Missions AA baseball is moving to Amarillo, Texas and will be playing in the new baseball stadium, according to a press conference held earlier today.
The team's owner, Elmore Sports Group, will be relocating its AA team to Amarillo sometime after the stadium's projected completion in 2019. City officials are currently giving residents the ballpark estimate of $45.5 million for the new stadium. Amarillo voters approved building a $32 million stadium in November of 2015 by a narrow margin.
At today's press conference officials from the Elmore Sports Group were on hand as were Amarillo City Council officials. LGC members and former Amarillo Mayor Jerry Hodge were also at the press conference.
As the Missions leave San Antonio, the Colorado Sky Sox will reportedly take their spot in the South Texas town. The Sky Sox are a AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, while the AA Missions are currently the AA affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
