"After every Independence Day, Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare (AAM&W) is flooded with lost pets who escaped their enclosures during the excitement of the celebrations. To assist in the reclamation of those lost furry family members, AAM&W will offer microchipping for $10 between Wednesday, June 28 and Monday, July 3. The microchip from AAM&W includes registration to the owner at no additional cost.
“Microchipping remains the best way to reunite with your lost animals and we here at the City’s shelter would like to encourage citizens to be proactive before one of the most stressful holidays for animals,” says AAM&W Director Richard Havens. “Along with providing proof of ownership in the event your animal is lost or stolen, microchipping is a lifetime, passive, and permanent identification available to all species of pets including dogs, cats, and horses.”
In the unfortunate event your pet does become lost during the holiday weekend, remember that the City has an online search tool to reunite lost pets with their owners at http://bit.ly/AAMWSearchTool. AAM&W is closed Tuesday, July 4 to observe the holiday and will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5."
