West Texas A&M University Track and Field coach Darren Flowers has received the honor of being named the USTFCCCA Division II Track and Field Coach of the Year.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Flowers the coach of the year for 2017 last week. Flowers and his team won the national championship this month, sailing to a national championship victories in a dominant fashion. The Buffs won the championships in the 4x100 relay, the long jump, the triple jump, and the discus throw.
Flowers responded to the award on gobuffsgo.com, saying that he was honored to be recognized. "I'm truly honored to be recognized like this," Flowers wrote. "Individual awards are a byproduct of team success and I owe a lot of thanks to those student-athletes and coaches who work so hard to make us who we are and accomplish the things we have this season."
The championship is Flowers' first NCAA Division II title.
