Texas Panhandle native Lincoln Riley has been named the new head coach for the University of Oklahoma football program.
Riley, a native of Muleshoe, was named the new head of the program following the retirement of OU coach Bob Stoops. Riley previously served as offensive coordinator for the OU Sooners under Coach Stoops.
The new coach of the University of Oklahoma team has been under the spotlight since being named to the role to fulfill Stoops. Riley has been credited as being no ordinary talent, serving 15 years as a college football coach. Riley spent a year as a walk-on quarterback for Texas Tech University in 2002. In 2003, he became a student assistant coach for now-Washington State coach Mike Leach. Riley served at Texas Tech until Leach left the program, at which point he went to East Carolina and later became part of the University of Oklahoma program.
Riley will be at Oklahoma at least through the 2019 season.
