Heavy rains hit the Texas Panhandle this weekend, and Amarillo received quite a soaking.
While thunderstorms rolled into Amarillo, many events felt the wrath of the rain. The Texas Panhandle Honor Flight Carshow cancelled on Saturday, along with the Amarillo Community Garden. The rain put a damper on several weekend activities, but area farmers and agriculture enthusiasts enjoyed the soaking.
The rain did create some concern for travelers on Amarillo's roads. Interstate 40 at Bell was closed last night due to flooding and many other underpasses in Amarillo also created travel concerns for those out on Amarillo's roadways. Heavy rains were strong for those on the road at the time, so much so that visibility was cut considerably for those driving.
The National Weather Service reports that about an inch of rain fell during yesterday's storm in Amarillo.
Storms are expected to roll back into Amarillo this afternoon with the chance of some becoming severe. If rains continue in a heavy fashion, the National Weather Service warns motorists to "turn around, don't drown."
