"Dr. Pat Tyrer, professor of English at West Texas A&M University, will be signing copies of her book, Creative Hearts, from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at A&D Bookstore in Amarillo.
The book, published by Path Publishing, is co-authored by Tyrer’s mother, the late Juanita Jean Brazelton. It is a collection of poetry presented in sections—Remembering, Gratitude, Nature, Trials and Laughter—that reflect the life experiences of the two writers. Each poem represents the strength of the bond between mother and daughter and serves as a loving tribute to Brazelton.
“When I decided to put a collection of my own poetry, I felt it would be appropriate to combine my work with my mother’s,” Tyrer said. “After all, it was she who inspired me to write.”
Tyrer teaches creative writing and American literature at WTAMU. She is the author of a monograph, Evelyn Scott’s Contribution to American Literary Modernism 1920-1940 as well as several short stories, essays and poems.
Brazelton spent more of her adult life in Sioux City and Ankeny, Iowa. She enjoyed writing about faith, family and church.
Additional book signings for Creative Hearts are scheduled for Sept. 23 at the Burrowing Owl Bookstore in Canyon and Oct. 19 at Palace Coffee House in Canyon. The book is available at Amazon.com, PathPublishing.com, Burrowing Owl Bookstore and A&D Bookstore."
