A bill authored by Texas State Representative John Smithee has passed the Texas House of Representatives.
The Texas Tribune reported that Smithee's House Bill 214 passed the House in a recent vote. According to the Texas Tribune, the bill would change insurance policy in Texas to require women to have a separate health insurance premium to get coverage for non-emergency abortion.
In a statement to the Texas Tribune, Smithee discussed his bill, saying, "This isn’t about who can get an abortion. It is about who is forced to pay for an abortion."
The bill passed the Texas House in a 95 to 51 vote.
