A new report from the Austin-American Statesman says that an assistant to a high-ranking City official used government resources to sell beauty products.
In the new report from the Austin newspaper, Mary Lou Rodriguez, who is the assistant to Austin city manager Elaine Hart's chief of staff, used city time and resources to sell beauty products. According to an audit report from the City of Austin auditor's office, Rodriguez handed out business cards from her desk, while on the clock. Rodriguez also reportedly sold jewelry from her desk to other Austin employees.
In an official response, Rodriguez called the report a "misconception," writing, "It is more of a hobby than anything else; something I enjoy and certainly have shared with others."
It is not clear if Rodriguez will face any penalties based on the results of the audit report.
