Amarillo ISD to Consider Renaming Robert E. Lee Elementary Tonight

Members of the Amarillo Independent School District board of trustees are considering renaming Robert E. Lee Elementary School during tonight's regularly scheduled meeting.

During tonight's meeting of the board, members will discuss the potential renaming of the school and will consider taking an action. As the item is listed on the agenda with the board considering taking a possible action on the renaming, there is no guarantee that the members will make any definite decision during tonight's meeting.

Opened in 1952, Robert E. Lee Elementary is located at 119 Northeast 15th Avenue.

If board members approve the renaming of Robert E. Lee Elementary School, it will be the second such renaming by a Texas school district in recent months. In October, San Antonio Independent School District trustees voted to rename the district's Robert E. Lee High School to Legacy of Educational Excellence High School or LEE High School.

The meeting will begin at 6pm in the Board Room of the Amarillo Independent School District Education Support Center (7200 Interstate 40 West).
