For a time that spans two decades, Les Simpson served as publisher of the Amarillo Globe News. In an article that was published in the AGN today, Mr. Simpson is apparently stepping down from his position at the AGN as publisher. In the AGN article, he is quoted as saying, "Serving as publisher has been an honor. The Globe-News is vital to this community and I’m proud of the accomplishments of the newspaper and its employees during my time here."
He also states that he and his wife plan to remain in Amarillo.
In a time that has been turbulent in Amarillo relating to politics and downtown re-development, Simpson has always been vocal. News media has changed from a print only format to both print and digital, changing the landscape of the way that residents of Amarillo and the panhandle region view their news. All of these changes have helped to develop other changes in a Newspapers bottom line. This is evident with last year's sale of AGN by Morris Communications to a national conglomerate along with a bundle of other news organizations.
The resignation of Les Simpson from the AGN is yet another chapter that is written and sealed in the history of Amarillo. Every end stimulates a new beginning, and new possibilities for great new things to come. As time marches on, so do we all.
So from one publisher to another, Take Care Les.
