Senate Candidate Leal Says He's Anti-Voucher in New Video

Victor Leal, an Amarillo restaurant owner running for State Senator, told voters that he is against vouchers for private education in a new video today.

In the new video released on Monday, Leal attempted to clarify his position on vouchers, saying that he is against vouchers for private education, due to his concerns over funding for public schools.

"I am opposed to vouchers," Leal said. "I want to make sure that our public schools are well funded. We need to reform the way we finance our schools to make sure that we are lowering our property taxes."

Leal went on to say that because the vouchers would be funded by property taxes, it would be a "lose-lose" for private school and home school students, as there would be too many restrictions placed upon them.

Leal is running against Senator Kel Seliger and former Midland mayor Mike Canon in the March 6th Republican primary race. The winner of the party's nomination will meet the Libertarian Party's nominee in November.
