“West Texas A&M University’s nursing programs have earned top rankings by Best Nursing Programs with its RN to BSN program named No. 2 in the nation and its BSN program also ranked at No. 2 for Best BSN Program in Texas for 2018.
The rankings are designed to help prospective students explore options and make choices based on tuition costs and job opportunities. The organization looked at accredited nursing programs across the country and across the state of Texas and ranked the programs based on NCLEX-RN pass rates as well as acceptance rates, tuition and enrollment. Best Nursing Programs believes nurses who participate in the best RN to BSN programs and best BSN programs will be prepared to work in community settings and hold leadership roles and administrative positions within a hospital or medical practice because of their education and training.

According to Best Nursing Programs, the demand for qualified, talented nurses remains high and an estimated 1.2 million new nurses will be needed by the year 2022. Currently, only 55 percent of nurses in the field hold a Bachelor of Science degree.
WTAMU’s nursing program offers affordable tuition rates with flexible course options. Since 2013, the University’s NCLEX pass rate has averaged 96.54 percent, which is well above the national rate of 85.6 percent. WTAMU’s nursing faculty credits the high pass rates on a rigorous testing schedule that prepares nursing students for the NCLEX exam. Beginning with their junior year, WTAMU nursing students are required to take standardized tests that encompass the wide variety of content covered throughout each semester. The exams lead up to an exit exam at the end of the senior year that all nursing students must pass to graduate.
The WTAMU Department of Nursing has been educating students to become registered nurses and nurse practitioners since 1974, and today more than 400 nurses in the Texas Panhandle are graduates of the University’s nursing program.”
