Residents Concerned About Blood Found on Sidewalks

A trail of blood droplets on sidewalks spanning about two city blocks was found by residents and shop owners on Sixth Street this morning.

According to pictures captured by those who found the blood, the droplets span about two city blocks, appearing to run from the parking lot of a convenience store to an alley around Maryland Street.

Caroline Kenealy, an Amarillo resident who spotted and photographed the blood earlier this morning, said she was concerned for whoever may have been harmed to cause the trail.

“I didn’t know if someone was dead or if they needed help,” Kenealy said.

While some residents appeared to take matters into their own hands to clean up the blood, Kenealy said she was disappointed that no government entities charged with ensuring public health were on site to clean up what was found.

“And now I’m also embarrassed and repulsed by our landmark being covered in blood and no one coming and cleaning up a public health issue,” Kenealy said. “Kids walk home from school on that block.”

Kenealy also said she called the City of Amarillo’s Environmental Health Department around 10AM on Wednesday morning when she discovered the trail, but as of Wednesday afternoon, most of the trail remained, with the exception of trail cleaned up by shopkeepers. Kenealy also said Amarillo Police have been notified.

It is unclear what led to the trail of blood in the first place. Also, as of Wednesday afternoon, no crime reports are listed on the Amarillo Police Department’s website in the vicinity of the trail.
