Representative Mac Thornberry weighed in on the showdown over funding for a proposed wall along the Mexican-U.S. border, telling CBS News he would be against using military funding to build a wall.
During an interview on “The Takeout” podcast, Thornberry said he would not support using funding for the Department of Defense to fund the proposed border wall along the border, which has been a key priority of President Donald Trump.
"It is a bad idea to take money away for urgent needs from the Department of Defense to use for any other purpose," Thornberry told CBS.
Thornberry also weighed in on the concept of the wall itself, saying the wall will not solve illegal immigration issues. Thornberry said in addition to the wall, “people, technology, and physical barriers” must be in “key places” along the border.
