Former Texas Senate contender Beto O’Rourke met with former U.S. President Barack Obama this week amid speculation that the El Paso native is mounting a bid for the White House.
According to the Washington Post, O’Rourke and Obama met as Obama is meeting with several perspective candidates. Obama has also met with Senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and former New Orleans, Louisiana mayor Mitch Landrieu.
Calls have been growing for O’Rourke to run for the White House in recent weeks. O’Rourke originally said he was not interested in taking up a bid against Republican President Donald Trump in November, but has since said he and his wife, Amy, are considering many options and have not ruled out a bid for higher office.
So far, three major Democrats are in the race for the White House, coming in the forms of businessman Andrew Yang, Congressman John K. Delaney and former West Virginia State Senator Richard Ojeda.
