Herman Responds to Residency Allegations

Judge Rich Herman is responding to allegations that he does not live in the district for which he is running to represent.

Allegations have surfaced that Herman, who is seeking re-election as Potter County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, does not live inside of the number two precinct of Potter County. The precinct runs from east of Interstate 27 in Potter County to just shy of the east border of the county.

Herman says that the allegations, risen by KAMR Channel 4's Kelly James, are completely inaccurate. Herman says that the allegations state that he lives on Audrey Street in Randall County and that he does not live at his registered address, 1400 S. Johnson #A.

"My wife owns a house there," Herman told the Amarillo Pioneer in an exclusive interview. "I live in Precinct 2 on South Johnson Street."

Herman also said that James and his opponents have "politicized" the issue and have "disregarded the safety" of his family and Senate Bill 42, which protects a judicial authority's family.

"It's politics," Herman said. "It's desperate measures for a sinking ship."

When asked if he is considering legal action against KAMR and James if the station decides to run the story, Herman said that he is "strongly considering" it.

Kelly James has not returned our request for comment at the time of this article's publication.

Herman is seeking re-election against Amarillo College police officer Robert Taylor in the March 6th Republican primary. The winner of the Republican nomination will face Democrat Claudia Griego in November.
