City Says Residents Should be Aware of Facebook Satire

A new satire page on Facebook is drawing the rebuke of the City of Amarillo.

The new page, "The City of Amarillo," is a satire page that has been discussing the actions of the current Amarillo City Council, city manager and City staff. Primarily, the page's posts have been regarding Amarillo's homeless population, the Christ Church Camp of New Beginnings and homeless advocate Kip Billups.

In a statement released on social media Sunday night, City of Amarillo officials warned residents about the page and said that the posts on the page do not reflect the beliefs of the City of Amarillo.

"The City of Amarillo has been made aware of an unofficial City of Amarillo Facebook page," The City of Amarillo published on their official Facebook site. "Any content posted on the unofficial page does not reflect the viewpoints or opinions of the City of Amarillo's officials or employees."

City officials also went on to say that Facebook, Inc. has been notified about the satire page. However, quickly after the post was published, many residents were quick to point out that the page is a self-proclaimed satire page. The satire page also released a post several hours before the post on the official City page, proclaiming itself to be satire-based.
