AC Students Win Awards in San Antonio

"Amarillo College students demonstrated their ability to successfully compete on a national stage by emerging from the inaugural U.S. Information Technology Collegiate Conference with two second-place awards and an honorable mention.

Eleven AC students attended the conference April 6-7 in San Antonio, where they were among 225 students representing 31 colleges and universities nationwide, including such heavyweights as Purdue University, University of Iowa and University of Houston.

Capturing second-place honors for AC were Cailynn White in Coding and Chanpasong ‘Oscar;’ Thipphakhinkeo in Mobile App Development.

Justin Tolley and Samantha Raleigh teamed up to win honorable mention in the Microsoft Office competition.

“I’m so proud of our CIS students,” said Dr. Carol Buse, dean of STEM. “Placing so high in a national competition is really something, it shows that our Information Technology program is among the strongest in the nation.”

Joining the AC award winners at the conference were fellow CIS students Justin Burr, Amy ‘Michelle’ Driedger, Andrew Hands, Hector Jacquez, Julian Jacquez, Cameron Meyers and Xzatrion Price.

AC faculty making the trip were Buse and instructors Karen Boatman and Dewayne Higgs."
