Amarillo Police Investigating Fatal Friday Night Accident

Amarillo Police are currently investigating an accident that left one person dead on Friday night.

According to APD, officers were dispatched Friday night to a single vehicle accident in the 2000 block of South Arthur. Raquel Chavez, 27, had been driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 southbound, going under Interstate 40. Chavez reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll and was ejected. Officers say Chavez died at the scene.

Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson has ordered an autopsy. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in this collision.

This incident is under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
