Letter to Amarillo Residents Targets Clapping Ban

A letter mailed to Amarillo residents this week is targeting Mayor Ginger Nelson for the City Council's so-called "clapping ban."

On Tuesday, a letter was received in Amarillo mailboxes detailing Mayor Ginger Nelson and the City Council's ban on clapping in public meetings. In addition, the letter discussed the arrest of Kip Billups, who was arrested after clapping in a meeting, and the following letter sent by State Representative Tony Tinderholt (R-Arlington) to Mayor Ginger Nelson, criticizing the Council for the arrest of Billups and the ban on clapping.

The letter was sent to Amarillo voters by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, the campaign arm of Empower Texans, a statewide anti-corruption conservative organization. The letter was titled "Mayor Nelson attacks the citizenry."

No numbers are available regarding how many households received the letter in Amarillo. However, Amarillo voters reported receiving the letter in various areas of Amarillo, including in Southwest Amarillo and Northwest Amarillo.

The Amarillo Pioneer did not reach out to Mayor Ginger Nelson for comment, as she has previously declined to interview with the Amarillo Pioneer. However, Nelson recorded a video in April, attacking Empower Texans.
