Randall County Sheriff Reports Ongoing Scam

Another scam is being directed at Amarillo residents, authorities say.

According to the Randall County Sheriff's Office, a resident of Amarillo was recently targeted by a scam, in which the caller attempted to post as Sgt. Cody Weavers of the Randall County Sheriff's Office. The caller told the victim that there was a warrant for her arrest, but it could be cleaned up if she paid a $2,000 fine. The victim was instructed to purchase a Green Dot Card for this amount. The caller also told the victim that the Sheriff's Office was working with "Judge Anderson" to clean up the warrants. Officials say the call came from a number reading 806-476-4511.

Residents are asked to remember that government agencies will not ask residents to pay fines in this method. All warrants are taken care of by arrest or payments arranged through courts.
