Trustees with the Amarillo Independent School District will not consider appointing a replacement for James Allen this month.
On Tuesday, August 28th, the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees will meet for its first meeting since the start of the current school year. During that meeting, trustees will discuss the adoption of an order for the upcoming fiscal year's tax rate and approval of several bond-funded school projects.
However, school trustees will not consider making an appointment to the open seat on the board during this meeting. Trustees are currently considering applications from individuals interested in fulfilling the remainder of James Allen's term on the school board. Allen was re-elected for a four year term in 2017, but resigned earlier this year.
Whoever is selected for Allen's seat will serve until May of 2017, when a special election will be held. Whoever wins that special election will serve out the final two years of Allen's four year term and will be eligible to run for election to a full four year term in 2021.
Trustees have stated that Allen's replacement is expected to be selected by September.
The Amarillo ISD board will meet on Tuesday in the Board Room of the Amarillo ISD Education Support Center (7200 I-40 West). The meeting will begin at 6pm.
