Kyle Hawkins will now serve as Texas Solicitor General.
This week, Attorney General Ken Paxton appointed Hawkins to become the new state solicitor general. In this role, Hawkins will serve as Texas’ chief appellate lawyer. Prior to being appointed to the role, Hawkins served as an assistant solicitor general in Paxton’s office.
The Solicitor General job in Texas has been an important one for years that has also launched the political careers of some of Texas’ best-known elected officials. Senator Ted Cruz served as a solicitor general under then-Attorney General Greg Abbott before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012.
