Smith Claims Realtor Association Endorsement

Howard Smith says he has the support of the Amarillo Association of REALTORS heading into the 2019 local election season.

On Thursday, Smith, who is currently running for re-election to the Place 4 seat on the Amarillo City Council, announced that he had earned the support of the Amarillo Association of REALTORS for the upcoming election. Smith released a graphic claiming the endorsement.

Smith’s only announced opponent, Steven R. Rosas, Jr., told the Amarillo Pioneer via text on Thursday that he was not invited to interview with the Association of Realtors for a possible endorsement. Previous candidates confirmed that in past years, all candidates have been invited to interview prior to endorsements being offered.

In 2017, Smith received the group’s endorsement, along with the endorsement of the statewide component of the organization. The Texas REALTORS group made Smith’s race one of the most expensive in the entire state, when he claimed victory over Councilman Mark Nair.

The Amarillo City Council election will be held in May 2019. Filing will continue for spots on the ballot through February 15th.
