Cornyn Introduces Bill to Honor Bush

Senator John Cornyn has introduced a new bill aimed at honoring the lives of President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush.

According to Cornyn’s office, the Texas Senator has introduced George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush Coin Act to issue coins in honor of the Bushes. The legislation, if passed, would provide for the creation of $1 coins honoring the couple.

“President George H.W. Bush and his beloved wife Barbara left behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire generations of Texans,” Cornyn said in a statement. “I am proud to introduce this legislation so the Treasury can immediately begin issuing coins honoring their contributions to the nation they loved so dearly.”

The ability for the U.S. Treasury to issue the coins would be immediate following the bill’s passage, as provided for in the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005.
