Price, Smithee Back Removal of Red Light Cameras

Both of Amarillo’s state representatives are making their positions on red light cameras known, signing on for a bill that would ban the use of the cameras in Texas.

According to information from the Texas House journal, Representatives Four Price and John Smithee, both Amarillo Republicans, are coauthoring a bill pushed by about five representatives. The two representatives are part of a coalition of over one-hundred representatives signing on to back the removal of the cameras.

Representative Jonathan Stickland announced the cosponsors in a press release, saying, “Obtaining these coauthors is an important first step at finally banning these intrusive and unconstitutional cameras across the State and fulfilling a demand of the people.”

As of right now, the bill has been filed, but has not been advanced in the House.
