West Texas A&M University’s student media received 12 awards from the Previously Published category, and earned one On-Site Contest award at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) convention.
Students involved in media organizations such as the Prairie and Eternal Flame submitted work completed during the spring and fall semesters in 2018 last December. The awards were announced at the annual TIPA convention held in Corpus Christi from March 13 to 16.
“We submitted our work back in in the fall semester and it made us all very excited to go through all of the work we are proud of,” Hannah Nelson, senior advertising/public relations major and the Prairie entertainment editor, said. “To learn that I won was an amazing surprise.”
Among the awards in the Division 4 were four first-place earned, two second-place, and four third-place. In addition, an honorable mention was earned.
“It’s very exciting to see the work I have done at the Prairie get recognized and rewarded,” Savannah Wesley, sophomore broadcast journalism major and the Prairie features editor, said. “The effort put into these pieces, and seeing that others recognize that effort is a reward within itself.”
