AC Hosting 'Thrive Live' Tonight

Experts will elaborate on the basic details of the Thrive Scholarship Program during a Facebook Live event beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7.

Thrive Live will give students and parents an opportunity to find out in real time about the eligibility requirements and benefits of Thrive, which allows qualified graduates of Amarillo ISD high schools to attend Amarillo College tuition-free.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and may be joined on the Amarillo College Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/amarillocollege/.

Bob Austin, vice president of enrollment management for Amarillo College, and Tracey Morman, director of counseling/college and career readiness for Amarillo ISD, will briefly outline how the program works and then take questions.

Thrive is a partnership of Amarillo College, Amarillo Area Foundation, Amarillo Economic Development Corporation, and Amarillo Independent School District.

The Thrive Scholarship provides free tuition/books/fees for qualified AISD graduates, regardless of family income, for up to 3 years and/or 60 hours of course credit at AC.

To qualify for the scholarship, students should have an 80 or higher high school GPA, never having been placed in a disciplinary alternative education program – DAEP. Candidates must apply to Amarillo College and complete both the AC scholarship application and the FAFSA application for federal financial aid.

For those unable to take advantage of the Thrive Live event on March 7, the College has scheduled a number of in-person Thrive informational events this spring semester. Each will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at AC’s Downtown Campus.

The dates of the upcoming in-person events are: March 21, April 18, May 15 and June 4.

For more information about Thrive Scholarship Program or any of the upcoming events, including Thrive Live, please contact Cassie Montgomery, AC’s director of outreach services at 806-345-5600.
