Personal Robbery in South Amarillo Stems from Online Classifieds Deal

Amarillo Police are reporting a personal robbery occurred on Sunday in the 6000 block of Southwest 48th.

According to APD, on the afternoon of Sunday, July 21st, officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 6000 block of Southwest 48th Avenue on the report of a personal robbery. The victim, a 17 year old male, had made a deal to sell a cell phone through an online classifieds website. Authorities say the suspects pulled up with money in hand, but never got out of the vehicle. When the victim walked to the suspects, they asked to see the phone. The victim handed the phone to the suspect, followed by the suspect displaying a gun to the victim. The suspect then drove away.

No injuries were reported from this incident. The suspects are described as three black males in a four-door maroon car.

APD says that in this incident, the suspect did the right thing by meeting outside, but also reminds residents to be cautious during online classifieds transactions. Authorities say those buying or selling from someone online should try to obtain the person’s phone number and meet in a public place, like the APD front lobby.
