West Texas A&M University’s 12th-class-day fall enrollment figures show a nearly level enrollment with last fall at 10,018 students. However, there is steady increase among the youngest student groups, diversity and the course loads of students overall.
Last fall, enrollment stayed above the 10,000 mark at 10,053. Though higher than this fall, there are more students aged 17-20 in 2019 compared to those in 2018. Collectively, there are 45 more underclassmen this year.
The average course load of enrolled students has increased topping out at 107,371 semester credit hours total - greater than last year’s 106,692. Colleges that gained the most students are the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business with 2,866 compared to last year’s 2,858 and the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences with 1,557 compared to last year’s 1,468.
In terms of diversity, the student body saw growth in the international student population with 261 compared to last year’s 217 and in the Hispanic community with 2,748 compared to last year’s 2,647. The Amarillo headcount is 221 and enrollment is 492.
The 12th class day is when Texas’ public universities traditionally report enrollment in the spring and fall semesters.
