We have asked candidates running for various offices to answer questions for our Voter Guide. While full responses are available here, we are offering you an excerpt in “Candidate Comparisons” ahead of the November 3, 2020 general election. Each response below came directly from the candidate’s questionnaire and is unedited.

Ronny Jackson, Republican

Occupation: Congressional Candidate

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

Having worked as President Trump's Senior Advisor for the last 3 years, I am in a unique position to accomplish immediate results for the people of the 13th district. I will not be bought and paid for by special interests and I will ALWAYS do what is right by the people I am seeking to represent.

Gus Trujillo, Democrat

Occupation: Office Manager

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

I am running for this office because as a lifelong resident of District 13, I’m the candidate with the most knowledge and understanding of its constituents.

We face unique challenges in our area. I understand the challenges our residents face, because I’ve lived them. I know the values they share because I grew up with those same morals and principles. We share the same dreams for growth and prosperity. I am the only candidate who is qualified to represent the distinctive voice of the 13th District because I’m a local voice.

This is one of the most difficult times we’ve ever faced. We need to generate fresh ideas and find workable solutions. Those answers need to provide hope and possibilities for small business owners as well as corporations. They need to extend to working families as much as wealthy ones. All of our children deserve the opportunity to chase their dreams and achieve success. We can’t move forward without discussion and understanding. I will listen to you and speak for you in Congress. We must use the art of compromise skillfully and balance it with the strength to stand firm in issues that directly impact the well-being of our District.

The 13th District is known for its independence. We can honor that by refusing to be swayed by special interests and partisan politics. I promise to faithfully represent you and listen to you even when we disagree. I’m the only candidate in this congressional race who can and will keep that promise.

Jack B. Westbrook, Libertarian

Occupation: Retired

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

I am the only candidate on the ballot who has lived and worked in various areas of District 13 who also has extensive experiences in a number of areas. These areas include: farming, ranching, education, religion and ethics, immigration adjudication, military service, and government contracting.
