Emmy-award winning filmmaker and director Almudena Carracedo will take part in a Q&A following a screening of her film “The Silence of Others” on March 2 and lecture on March 4 at West Texas A&M University.
Sponsored by the WT Distinguished Lecture Series, Campus 2 Community, and the Department of English, Philosophy and Modern Languages, both events are free and open to the public.
“The Silence of Others,” Carracedo’s documentary, focuses on the struggle for justice and healing following Spain’s Fascist dictatorship. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 2 in Old Main, room 220.
“The Silence of Others” won a Goya award in 2018 for Best Documentary and received recognition from the Sundance Institute, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Guggenheim Foundation.
Carracedo will host a lecture at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 titled “Speaking Up for Human Rights Through Film” in the Classroom Center, room 310.
Carracedo has an honorary doctorate from Illinois Wesleyan University and has taught filmmaking at NYU Madrid and the University of Alcalá in Madrid. Carracedo is best known for her documentary about immigrant rights in the U.S., “Made in L.A.”
