West Texas A&M University’s Jesseca Land, Bailee Barber and Abby Morris were three of 64 student workers recognized by the Lone Star Conference as the 2019-20 Sports Information and Student Athletic Trainer Academic Award winners.
Each academic year, the LSC recognizes student athletic trainers and sports information students who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of the athletics department while also finding time to excel in the classroom.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, students must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester hours at the nominating institution. The qualifications mirror those required of student-athletes to gain LSC All-Academic recognition.
Land, a senior from Amarillo, was one of 35 student athletic trainers from nine schools to earn academic honors. Barber, a graduate assistant from Amarillo, spent the past two years doing it all from taking pictures to running marketing for men’s and women’s basketball.
Morris, a senior from Wellington, helped with stats for a variety of sports during her two years with the SID department including inputting stats for the 2019 NCAA DII Women’s Basketball South Central Regional Championships.
