This week, the Amarillo Pioneer will be bringing our readers interviews with a few of the candidates for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination. The Libertarian Party will select its candidates for President and Vice President in a nomination vote this weekend and the party’s ticket will be one of four eligible to appear on the Texas ballot in November.
Adam Kokesh is bringing a unique approach to the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination process this year, offering his vision to voters of a “Finally Free America.”
Kokesh, a popular media personality who has gained global attention for his libertarian and anti-war advocacy, is one of the Libertarian Party’s top contenders for the presidential nomination in 2020. His platform is based almost entirely around the idea of localization, a key element he believes was missing from the presidential race.
“I looked around and thought ‘nobody else is doing it, nobody else is offering a meaningful alternative,’” Kokesh said.
Under Kokesh’s platform, he would lead the United States through a peaceful bankruptcy process, including the secession of all fifty states. The Libertarian candidate says secession has been a popular issue among American voters before and will resonate if offered in the general election.
“I think we have the chance to do something different,” Kokesh said.
If elected, Kokesh says his first action will be to pardon those serving time for “victimless crimes.” Kokesh then plans to resign and transition into a role of a custodian to transition into bankruptcy, including liquidation of the federal government’s assets and disowning the national debt. Kokesh says allowing states to operate independently will lead to more efficiency and will show the failures of the system of centralized government. He says offering this platform will allow voters to have a say on a referendum of centralized government.
“I’m running to turn this election into a referendum on this centralized system,” Kokesh said.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Kokesh is also dedicating a major portion of his campaign to the issue of veteran suicides and the anti-war movement. Kokesh says he can unite the American people around the anti-war movement as the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee. Overall, he thinks his platform can best be achieved through localized government.
“It really doesn’t matter what your issues are,” Kokesh said. “Localized government is transparent, organized, and accountable.”
